The Wonderware System Platform

The Wonderware System Platform is a technology unlike any other in the market place. As a mature and widely used product, the Wonderware System Platform allows users to move from the world of limited tag based systems of specific functionality to an object oriented platform that allows users to add capability as the need arises.

The traditional model for a manufacturing environment is to add capability (HMI, SCADA, Performance Monitoring, Tracking and Tracing, Condition Based Maintenance, etc.) by purchasing, learning, and implementing a system specific to that need and installing it alongside all of the other systems already in the plant. With each system having a different underlying data model, different visualization capabilities and different development and management environments, the ability to access and share information becomes a huge integration challenge. Additionally, as each system is upgraded or enhanced, the work to keep information flowing never ends.

The Wonderware System Platform eliminates these kinds of issues because it allows the user to add all of the capability above as a single system within a single data model. To add performance data or Tracking data to your existing System Platform based HMI system, you simply plug that capability into the platform, and extend your existing data model using the same development and maintenance environment that you used to create the original system. From a visualization aspect, the System Platform leverages InTouch at the plant level and Information Server at the reporting/management level. Any information exposed via the platform is accessible from either of these client tools. So again, a single system encompassing all of your plant information needs.
